Have you done anything exciting this week?  Queen Anne-Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Company is actively recruiting new and inactive members.  Please consider taking advantage of the Free Training, provided by the University of Maryland, Fire and Rescue Institute; Free Uniforms and protective gear; and lucrative state tax incentives and join us today.  Volunteers are needed for Fire & Rescue, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, Fire Cadets, and Administrative/fund Raising. 

If you have time, view the videos explaining the process involved in joining and watch a demonstration of responding to a call.

TEXAS HOLD 'EM POKER TOURNAMENT - OCT 16th, 2010
   
Queen Anne-Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a No Limit, Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament fund raiser on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 1:00 PM.  Seating will be limited to 120 in the hall.  The entry fee will be $75 with $50 going to the prize pool.  Beer, Soda and Water will be included in the entry fee.  Initial buy-in includes $5000 in chips and there will be no re-buys or add ons.  Food will be available for purchase.  Side tables and other games will be available for tournament players only.  All eight finalists will share the prize pool with 30% going to the first place finisher.  Thirty minute blinds with a starting level of $25/$50. with no ante.  The house rake will benefit the fire company.  Call Tom DiFatta 443-786-4532 or email tdifatta@comcast.net.  See images for more details and other committee members.


 
Annual Firemen's Fair
Queen Anne-Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Company will be holding it's FIREMAN'S FAIR from July 29-31, 2010. The fun will run nightly from 7:00 pm-til at the firehouse grounds in downtown Queen Anne.

The Little Miss Fire Prevention and Junior Fire Chief contests will be held on Thursday evening, July 29th at 7:30 pm at the fire hall.

The Miss Fire Prevention contest will be held the following evening, Friday, July 30th at 8:00 pm also at the fire hall.
 
Contestants for the Little Miss and Miss Fire Prevention are encouraged to contact Danielle Starkey or Stephanie McNeal for more information regarding becoming a contestant.

The events will culminate with a parade down Main Street, Hillsboro and Main Street, Queen Anne ending at the fire hall on Saturday evening, July 31st at 6:00 pm. Trophies will be awarded later that evening.

Come out and enjoy great food, fire truck and hay rides through the towns, and many games of chance.

There will be several ground prizes given away each night of the fair. The Raffle Drawings will take place on Saturday evening, July 31st at the close of the fair.

RT 404 MVC with Serious Entrapement and Fire

At approximately 8:40 AM Talbot Center dispatched Station 80 (Queen Anne-Hillsboro), Paramedic 90 and Queen Anne’s County Paramedic 400 for a 10-50 PI reported serious with entrapment and one vehicle on fire, on Route 404 in the area of Pinder Road. While getting ready to respond Officer 801 (T. Unruh) requested Talbot Center dispatch Station 50 (Cordova) to assist. Talbot Center advised all responding units that Caroline County Utility 404 was on location and confirmed one entrapment and one vehicle on fire.

Rescue 84 arrived on location and Officer 801 (T. Unruh) established “Shore Highway” command. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and started patient care, it is believed one of the patients was ejected. After further assessment of the scene, Command requested aviation and advised Engine 52 to secure a landing zone at the Armory, just east of the accident scene. Trooper 1 and Trooper 6 each transported a priority 1 patient to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

The highway remained closed for several hours while the Maryland State Police reconstructed the scene.

Units on scene: Rescue 84, Brush 87, Engine 51, Engine 52, Paramedic 90, Paramedic 400, EMS-1, Maryland State Police and State Highway

MVC Involving Two Vehicles at RT 309 & RT 404

Just before noon, Talbot Center dispatched Station 80 (Queen Anne-Hillsboro) and Paramedic 90 for a 10-50 PI at Route 404 and Route 309. Rescue 84 arrived on location to find two vehicles involved and Officer 803 (S. Palmatary) established “Shore Highway” command. Two patients were transported to Memorial Hospital at Easton with minor injuries. Units cleared the scene in approximately 30 minutes.

Motor Vehicle Collision with Heavy Entrapment

May 26, 2010 - At approximately 12:05 PM Talbot County Station 80 (Queen Anne-Hillsboro), Caroline County Station 400 (Ridgely) and Paramedic 13 were dispatched for an MVC, car vs. tractor trailer with entrapment on Shore Highway (Route 404) in the area of Hillsboro Road. Paramedic 13 arrived on location and reported one vehicle under the rear of a tractor trailer with heavy entrapment.

Officer 420 (R. Baker) arrived on location, established “Shore Highway” command and requested an additional Rescue from Station 300 (Denton), an Engine from Station 50 (Cordova) and Aviation. Crews from Station 80, Station 400, Station 300 and Caroline County ALS worked to extricate the patient while the crew from Engine 51 established a landing zone for Trooper 1. After an extensive extrication, one patient was transported by Trooper 1 to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore. The driver of the truck refused treatment.

The accident is being investigated by the Maryland State Police.

Units on scene: Chief 80, Rescue 84, Engine 405, Rescue 300, Engine 51, Paramedic 13, Paramedic 10, Paramedic 392, Trooper 1, Maryland State Police and State Highway.

CHICKEN HOUSE FIRE ON RIDGELY ROAD

At approximately 1:15 PM Caroline dispatched Station 400 (Ridgely), Station 300 (Denton), Station 600 (Greensboro) and Talbot County Station 80 (Queen Anne-Hillsboro) for a field fire with exposure to a structure at 11756 Ridgely Road. Chief 4 arrived on location and reported several large straw bales on fire with extension into a chicken house. Officer 415 (B. Utz) established “Ridgely Road” command. Due to the size of the structure and the strong winds, command requested additional tankers from Station 700 (Goldsboro) and Talbot County Station 50 (Cordova). Crews remained on the scene for approximately 2 hours.

Construction crews were in the process of cleaning up the chicken house, which had partially collapsed during the heavy snow fall in February, when the fire started. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Maryland State Fire Marshall’s Office.

Shotgun Raffle Tickets Available

Engine and Tanker to centreville to assist with a house fire

Station 80 was alerted at 06:53 hours to assist Centreville with a house fire on Rolling Bridge rd in the 4-6- box. Engine -85 and Tanker -86 responded. Engine -41 arrived and reported smoke showing and upon further investigation found fire in the walls extending to the second floor. The fire appeared to be caused by the homes fireplace.The crew from Engine -85 was assigned to R.I.T. and later assisted with overhaul.Units returned to service in about an hour and a half.

Station 80 was alerted for the motor vehicle accident reported car vs. dumptruck. Rescue 84 arrived and confirmed the dispatch report anjd began checking on injuries, with one person being transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Units were only on scene for a short time before returning to service.

RT 404 Head On Collision with Entrapment

December 5, 2009 - At approximately 3:30 PM, during the year's first snow fall, Queen Anne-Hillsboro was alerted to a motor vehicle collision which was reported serious, with entrapment.  The location of the incident was on Rt 404 near the eastern end of Hillsboro road.  Denton VFD and Medic units 90 were also alerted to the incident.  Upon arrival, Rescue 84 Officer 802 (C. McNeal) established "Shore Highway" command and reported two vehicles involved with confirmed entrapment of two patients.

Due to the inclement weather Caroline advised command all aviation was down. Command requested additional transport units while crews from Rescue 84 and Rescue 300 pulled tools from both Rescue Trucks and began extrication. The crews were able to free the trapped  patients in just over 15 minutes where they were assessed, stabilized and packaged for transport.  A total of three patients were transported by ground to the Memorial Hospital at Easton.  One patient was transferred from Easton to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD. 

Shore Highway remained closed in both directions for the duration of the call.  The accident is being investigated by the Maryland State Police.

Units on scene: Rescue 84, Ambulance 80, Rescue 300, Engine 304, Paramedic 90, Paramedic 11, Paramedic 392 and Maryland State Police.
