Saturday, December 5, 2009 - December 5, 2009 - At approximately 3:30 PM, during the year's first snow fall, Queen Anne-Hillsboro was alerted to a motor vehicle collision which was reported serious, with entrapment. The location of the incident was on Rt 404 near the eastern end of Hillsboro road. Denton VFD and Medic units 90 were also alerted to the incident. Upon arrival, Rescue 84 Officer 802 (C. McNeal) established "Shore Highway" command and reported two vehicles involved with confirmed entrapment of two patients.
Due to the inclement weather Caroline advised command all aviation was down. Command requested additional transport units while crews from Rescue 84 and Rescue 300 pulled tools from both Rescue Trucks and began extrication. The crews were able to free the trapped patients in just over 15 minutes where they were assessed, stabilized and packaged for transport. A total of three patients were transported by ground to the Memorial Hospital at Easton. One patient was transferred from Easton to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD.
Shore Highway remained closed in both directions for the duration of the call. The accident is being investigated by the Maryland State Police.
